George’s work experience shows a special brand of versatility – unless you can think of other artists who can claim they have arranged music for the Chiffons, played for members of the Bill Clinton White House and written original music for the Saint Paul City Ballet.
George started as a solo performer but now immerses himself in collaborative projects, performing with other musicians and writing and producing soundtracks for the stage and screen.
Audiences across the country know George as a pianist/keyboardist who has played his way from Congress to the Crickets. He has been called Minnesota’s premier jazz pianist and gained acclaim with the George Maurer Jazz Group and Trio as well as his collaborations with vocalists.
But playing is just a small part of his repertoire. George has created original compositions for orchestra and ballet, big band and Bobby Vee. He writes original scores for film, theater and dance, which display his unique talent for developing the relationship between music, movement and words.
His 2006 commission to produce original music for the Saint Paul City Ballet’s performance “Enticed” allowed him to set classic ballet to jazz, impressing audiences and drawing critical praise.
George has also been called upon to arrange and produce music for an incredible diversity of projects, from pop rock to gospel choir.
George thrives on the textures and layers of multidimensional work, where each note can set the mood for a song or scene. That’s why George Maurer finds himself in high demand as a performer, composer and producer. He has a true passion for collaboration that comes through in each note of every project he writes. |
